MPPL is excited to bring you another great picture book to read as you enjoy one of Mt. Prospect’s great parks!
From May 1- 31, march over to Clearwater Park (1717 W Lonnquist Blvd) to enjoy reading We Are the Dinosaurs by Laurie Berkner while you walk around the trail!
If you and your family are looking for a fun way to spend a day in Mount Prospect, we have just the thing for you! The Mount Prospect Public Library has teamed up with Mt. Prospect Park District to bring you an exciting opportunity to read a great picture book while soaking up the sunshine at Clearwater Park.
Each sign has a question or activity to go along with the book pages!
The StoryWalk® is a creative way to enjoy reading and the great outdoors. As you follow the trail, you’ll discover signs with questions and activities that perfectly match the story. The signs are strategically placed, so you can enjoy the book and the beautiful surroundings at the same time. Our goal is to encourage early literacy, physical activity, and having a great time together in the great outdoors! You can share your feelings, fly like a Pterodactyl from one sign to the next, count how many dinosaurs are on a page, and more as you continue to enjoy the story.
To celebrate the return of StoryWalk®, visit the Youth Department starting May 1st to get a free bilingual picture book! While supplies last.
What’s a StoryWalk?
A StoryWalk® is an outdoor reading activity that seeks to build a child’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy activity. Talk about the story with your child as you follow the path of StoryWalk® pages.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Since it was launched in 2007, they have been installed all over the country and the world in libraries, parks, and various other public venues. We took the basic concept around the path of reading a picture book- and added a bit of play and conversation for those sharing the story.
