Appointment required for some DMV services

Home » News from the Research Desk » Community » Appointment required for some DMV services

Many services at local DMV’s, including Des Plaines and Schaumburg, now require an advance appointment. In order to cope with COVID-19 backlogs, the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office announced procedure changes for some services.

At some facilities, make an appointment in advance for:
*Behind-the-wheel road tests
*Applying for or renewing REAL IDs
*Applying for standard Driver’s License/Identification Card.

For some services, a visit to the DMV can be avoided by completing the transaction online, including:
*Driver’s License/Identification Card Renewal (if eligible)
*Duplicate driver’s license or State ID
*License plate renewal or replacement.

To make an appointment or to access online services, visit: https://www.ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/appointments/home.html. To make an appointment over the phone, call the appointment helpline at 844-817-4649.
