In finding this new source of nourishment, her young protagonist, a native boy named Rides the Wind, is able to help his people through a harsh winter. His pride also boosts his confidence in spite of a physical disability, and he is able to rise above the cruel taunts of other children.

The king's son falls in love with her, and when she is forced to flee at midnight, the prince is able to locate her with the glass slipper she left behind. Because she is good, Cinderella accepts her stepsisters' apologies and forgives them, allowing them to share her good fortune.
