For Teachers of Grades 6-12

The Mount Prospect Public Library has many services and programs to support your curriculum. Teen Services staff can provide fiction and nonfiction materials on topics or areas of study that can enhance your resource center’s offerings. We can assist by setting aside books for your students at the library, or you can stop by and select them yourself. The library can also help you expand your classroom experience through visits to the library or visits to your school by library staff to present booktalks, online resource presentations and more. We value the opportunity to collaborate with you and serve your school community.

Book Bags (For Teachers and Homeschoolers)

Request a school book bag via our web form. Please allow 3 business days for your request to be filled.

School Visits and Library Tours

The library offers exciting educational programs for you and your students. Staff members will visit your school to present these special programs, or you can arrange to visit the library. Please fill out our visit request form to schedule a visit, or contact Teen Services to schedule a tour.

Assignment Alerts

We encourage teachers to submit information about upcoming assignments to the library. Special accommodations can then be made to help students maximize their research experience. Please contact Teen Services to share your upcoming assignments.

We look forward to collaborating with you! Contact Teen Services to discuss how we can help.

Getting Materials from the Library

Teachers from Mount Prospect schools have the opportunity to check out books on their school’s library account. If you provide the topic, we can select books for you. If you would prefer to select your own materials, please stop by the library and browse our collection. No need to remember a card—we have all of the information for your school card at the Fiction/AV/Teen Desk.

How to Request Materials
  • Please submit the request at least 3 business days before the bag is needed. You can do so by e-mailing your request to bookbag@mppl.org or by using the book bag request form on our Web site.
  • Bags should be returned to the Patron Services desk on or before the due date.
  • Bags are loaned for three weeks, but this may be extended if the library is notified in advance of the time needed (subject to availability).
  • Bags contain approximately 20 items, including books or audiovisual materials related to the requested subject.
  • Please be specific as possible with your requests. Do you want fiction and/or nonfiction books? Do you want materials other than books, such as DVDs or kits? Do you want materials in another language?
  • Teachers are limited to one book bag per class at a time.

All outstanding materials must be returned to the library by the third Friday in May. The school is responsible for any lost or damaged materials. Schools will be notified about any overdue materials, and will be billed if the materials are not returned by the end of the school year.

Databases and Online Resources Demonstrations

Have a big research assignment or project coming up? The library provides free access to online subscription databases and sources that can provide your students with the resources they need to ace their assignments. These resources can be accessed remotely with a library card or by anyone on a library computer. The Teen Outreach Librarian will put together a presentation on the resources that will help students find the quality information they’re looking for.

Libby by Overdrive and Hoopla

The library offers e-books and downloadable graphic novels, comics, and audiobooks to Mount Prospect Public Library cardholders. Library staff will introduce your students to our e-book services. This presentation can be combined with a booktalk session if desired.
