2022 Income Tax Forms and Information
The Mount Prospect Public Library has a limited number of basic 1040 federal and Illinois income tax forms available for distribution. Additionally, assistance with printing/photocopying of other forms and publications can be obtained by request at the Research Services Desk on the second floor. VITA: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Offers free tax help to people who make low to moderate income; who are 60 years of age and older; and for those with limited English—speaking skills who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Sites also provide access to computers for online filing. Appointments are required so call ahead. For more information: VITA.
NOTE: Many VITA locations are closed currently and none open within a 50 mile radius of Mount Prospect. This may or may not change but check the link above for updates.
IRS Free File program provides free tax preparation software and electronic filing to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $73,000 or less. Some offer the program in Spanish and also offer state returns for free.
Seniors
AARP Tax-Aide

Village of Mount Prospect (50 S. Emerson St.)
Mount Prospect Human Services Dept. provides free income tax assistance for those 60 years of age and over. Trained AARP volunteer counselors will assist in preparing Federal and State tax forms from Wednesday, February 8, 2023 to Friday, April 7, 2023. Appointments will be held at the Mount Prospect Village Hall in the Farley Community Room. Visitors who are interested can call the Human Services Department at 847-870-5680, or stop by the office to schedule an appointment.
Wheeling Township (1616 N. Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights)
Free tax assistance for seniors will be provided by trained AARP tax counselors. Wheeling Township offers tax appointments Friday mornings beginning Feb 10th. Appts are at 9, 10:15 and 11:30. Clients will need to stop by the office to pick up their packet of information, which needs to be fully completed prior to their appt. AARP preparers will likely request masks to be worn. Residents can call 847-259-7730 for more information and to make an appointment.
Des Plaines Frisbie Senior Center (52 E. Northwest Hwy, Des Plaines)
Call 847-768-5944 for information and an appointment (required). Fifteen-minute appointments are available to those 55 and older on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning February 7 through April 12 between 9:00 AM and 2:15 PM. Residents will leave their documents with AARP tax counselors who will prepare them remotely.
