Collection Management Department Head – Mount Prospect Public Library

Search Re-Opened – Seeking candidate for Collection Management Department Head with passion for collection development and management. Ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to an excellent collection of all formats as a core service of a public library. Responsible for overseeing adult material collection development. Will work closely and collaboratively with public service departments, and technical services. Will directly supervise Acquisitions and Paging staff supervisors. Member of the Management and Leadership teams.

Successful candidate will hold and voice a strong appreciation and understanding of non-public and public service departments’ partnership to develop and provide collections. Candidate will have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department managers, library selectors, and staff committees. Strong knowledge of trends, operations and best practices for collection development and management. Excellent project management skills, budgeting, problem solving, analytic skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and operational management skills. Required: MLS from ALA accredited library school. Progressively responsible management experience in a public library. Minimum of five years of management and supervisory experience. $63,000 annual salary dependent on qualifications. IMRF benefit position.

Part time position available. The Fiction/AV/Teen Assistant staffs a busy popular materials service desk serving both adults and teens, and may have additional tasks and projects to work on. Bachelor’s degree and computer skills required. $14.80 hourly pay.

Position A (average 17 hours per week)
Extra tasks include program assistance for teen librarians; scheduling flexibility and an enthusiasm for working with teen patrons are desired.

Friday   4 pm to 8 pm

Participation in weekend rotation (roughly 1 in 10):

This position is responsible for assisting the page supervisor with scheduling, training and coordinating workflow of pages and shelving volunteers. Coordinates workflow in Page Supervisor’s absence. Position regularly coordinates inventory and other related collection management projects. Position will shelve, shelf read and shift print and AV materials. This position also may perform Circulation workroom duties as assigned. High school diploma required. Library experience a plus and computer experience required. Schedule (20.75 hours per week)
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 5 pm to 9 pm
Alternating Friday 5pm to 9pm
Two weekends per month (when not working Friday evening)
Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday 11 am to 5 pm

Must be flexible to work earlier or additional hours when needed for coverage.
