
Summer Reading Volunteer 2026 Application
Teens entering grades 7-12 who are accepted into the volunteer program will assist Youth department staff with Summer Reading by greeting families, registering children, handing out prizes, and more.
Each volunteer will commit to working a regularly scheduled, two-hour shift each week from June 8 through July 31. All volunteers must complete mandatory training before their first shift and will be eligible to earn up to 18 hours of community service. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 22.
Volunteer Requirements
- Entering grades 7-12 in the Fall of 2026.
- Commit to working a regular two-hour shift each week from Monday, June 8 through Friday, July 31.
- Submit application by Friday, May 22.
- Participate in a mandatory training session at the library on Thursday, June 4 or Friday, June 5.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Notify us in advance if unable to make an assigned shift. Please note that volunteers who fail to fulfill a shift without informing staff will have their position reconsidered.
- Arrive to shifts on time, remain on task, and avoid using phones while volunteering.
- Be polite and tell a staff member if someone is being unkind.
- Understand they are representing the Mount Prospect Public Library.
- Wear their name badge and Summer Reading Program shirt for all shifts and keep their appearance neat and clean.
