CANDIDATE FORUM: The League of Women Voters will host a Candidate Forum on Saturday (Feb. 23) from 9 a.m. – Noon at Mount Prospect Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.) The forum will cover four area races for positions on the Mt. Prospect Park District Board (9 a.m.), River Trails School District 26 (10 a.m.), School District 57 (11 a.m.) and Mount Prospect Village Board (Noon.) TEA WITH LOUISA MAY ALCOTT: Celebrate the 150th anniversary of the classic book Little Women on Saturday (Feb. 23) from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at an afternoon tea in Mount Prospect’s original one-room schoolhouse, Central School (103 S. Maple.) Portraying author Louisa May Alcott is history interpreter Leslie Goddard. Participants will sip tea and enjoy light refreshments while listening to stories of Miss Alcott’s childhood in poverty, her struggles to succeed as a writer, and how Little Women came to be. OAKTON FORUM: The Oakton Community College Full-Time Faculty Association-Political Action Committee will host a forum on Tuesday (Feb. 26) from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in Room 1604 at the Des Plaines campus (1600 E. Golf Rd.) Candidates running for the college’s board will discuss their platforms and what they envision for the future of Oakton. JAN SCHAKOWSKY’S OFFICE: Meet privately with a representative from the office of Ninth District Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky on Wednesday (Feb. 27) anytime between 2 – 5 p.m. at the Main Branch of Mount Prospect Public Library (10 S. Emerson St.) Ask questions about immigration, visas, Medicare, Social Security, veterans’ benefits and other federal services. Representatives from the Congresswoman’s office visit every Wednesday. This meeting is held in Room 130 on the first floor.
