HONORING OUR VETERANS: Spend some time on Saturday (Nov. 11) at 10:30 a.m. to participate in the VFW’s Veterans Day ceremony held at Lions Memorial Park (411 S. Maple St). Local veterans will play “Taps,” fire a 21-gun salute, and answer questions from attendees. This event is sponsored by the Prospect V.F.W. 1337 and American Legion 525.
POST OFFICE CLOSED: In observance of Veterans Day, the post office will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Saturday (Nov. 11).
FREE DENTAL CARE FOR VETS: The Illinois State Dental Society is sponsoring “Illinois Dentists Salute!” by offering military veterans free exams, cleanings, restorations, extractions, and other dental care in offices across the state on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 10 and 11). HOLIDAY HOUSEWALK TICKETS: Get your tickets now through Sunday (Dec. 3) for the Mount Prospect Historical Society’s Holiday Housewalk, held on Sunday (Dec. 3) from 12–5:30 p.m. The interiors of six private homes, built between the 1880s and 1915 will be featured on the tour this year. Non-refundable tickets will be sold for $28 each through Saturday (Dec. 2) at the following locations: The Huntington Bank (50 N. Main St); Mount Prospect State Bank (299 W. Central Rd); Busse Flowers and Gifts (100 E. Northwest Hwy); River Trails Weiss Center (1500 E. Euclid Ave); Lions Park Recreation Center (411 S. Maple St); Millie’s Hallmark (1024 S. Elmhurst Rd); and Dave’s Specialty Foods (105 W. Prospect Ave) and through Thursday (Nov. 30) at the Dietrich Friedrichs House Museum (101 S. Maple St). LOOSE LEAF COLLECTION: Now that the leaves are falling in earnest, you can rake and set them at the curb once a week from now until Friday, Dec. 1; no collection takes place the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 20-24). Rake leaves onto the pavement one foot from the curb line the day prior to the scheduled collection day. Leaf piles will not be collected if the pile contains grass clippings or other organic/yard material. For more information, call 847/870-5640.

ACA OPEN ENROLLMENT: If you need to change your health insurance coverage or get it for the first time, you can sign up through the Affordable Care Act now through Friday, Dec. 15 by clicking here. FALL FANTASY CONCERT: Enjoy the music of the season on Sunday (Nov. 12) 3:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church (605 W. Golf Rd). The concert is performed by the Mt. Prospect Community Band under the direction of Monty Adams. Selections include Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Soprano soloist and 2016 Opera Idol winner Angela DeVenuto performs and the band salutes our veterans with patriotic selections.
