EASTER EGG HUNT: Join the Mt. Prospect Park District for an Eggstra special day on Saturday (March 24) for its annual indoor egg hunt at RecPlex (420 W. Dempster St.) Little ones can jump into piles of grass and hunt for treat-filled eggs. Be sure to bring a basket to collect the goodies. After the hunt, kids can make a special craft and take a photo with the Easter bunny. The event is divided by these age groups: 3-4 year-olds from 9:30 – 10:10 a.m.; 4 – 5 year-olds from 10:20 – 11 a.m.; 5 – 8-year-olds from 11:10 – 11:40 a.m. Tickets are $5/child for the egg hunt and an additional $3 for the craft. Register early at as this popular event tends to sell out!

PROPOSED MP POLICE HQ OPEN HOUSE:  An open house of the proposed Mount Prospect site is scheduled for Tuesday (March 27) from 6 – 8 p.m. at 799 Biermann Court. Visitors will have the chance to tour the building, see photos of conditions at the current headquarters, and view examples of modern police facilities, as well as architectural renderings of what the renovated Biermann Court building might look like. Information on the financing plan, impact on beat/shift change operations and neighborhood traffic, and  the  potential re- redevelopment of the existing Public Safety Building property will also be available.

RULES OF THE ROAD REFRESHER: Seniors, do you need a little “tune up” before you renew your driver’s license? Attend a free refresher course on Wednesday (March 28) 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Mount Prospect Village Hall (50 S. Emerson St.) Registration is required. Call 847/870-5680.


—-OAKTON ACCEPTING DONATIONS: Oakton Community College provides care packages to children ages 3 – 5 years-old through their Oakton Helping Others Program. Donations of new small plush toys, washable markers, school supplies, and notebooks are needed.  Items should be able to fit inside a drawstring bag. Collection boxes are located at the Des Plaines campus (1600 E. Golf Rd.) and the Skokie campus (7701 Lincoln Ave.) on Friday (March 23.) Monetary donations are accepted at the Office of Student Life at both locations.

—-LENTEN FISH FRY: Enjoy a meal of crunchy battered cod on Friday (March 23 and 30) from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at American Legion (122 W. Palatine Rd. PAL.) Dinners include a garden salad, tater tots and mac & cheese. The cost is $11/adults; $9/veterans or seniors age 65 and older; $5/children ages 9 and younger.

—-FIDO & FLUFFY PHOTOS: Bring your pet and your kiddos for a photo op with the Easter Bunny on Saturday (March 24) from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at The Buddy Foundation (65 W. Seegers Rd. AH.) —-BOWL FOR A CAUSE: Help raise funds for homeless pets housed at Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook. Gather your friends on Sunday (March 25) 5:30 p.m. for some Bow Wow and Alley Cat Bowling at River Rand Bowl (191 S. River Rd. DP.) The fee to participate is $25 in advance and $30 at the door and includes bowling, pizza, dessert, games and raffles. To register, visit

—-VETERANS WHO RIDE: Des Plaines American Legion Post 36 is looking for local veterans who ride motorcycles. The post has been licensed to start American Legion Riders Chapter 36, a unit with a focus on “preserving American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for American children, caring for veterans and their families and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.” Requirements to join the group include membership in an American Legion post and license to ride a 300cc or larger motorcycle.
