UNPLUG ILLINOIS INITIATIVE: On Saturday (July 13) the Illinois Park and Recreation Association will promote parks as a place to play without distractions. Unplug Illinois is a public service campaign designed to help park and recreation agencies communicate the value “unplugging” offers people and communities. Northwest Special Recreation Association will participate by encouraging others to visit their local park district parks and facilities. Enjoy this beautiful weather in a nearby park!
CRUISIN’: The Model “A” from the Illinois Model A Club is on display on Saturday (July 13) from 3 – 9 p.m. in the Metra East Commuter Lot (Northwest Hwy. and Emerson St.) Enjoy the stroll while you listen to live music performed by the band The Difference.
SECOND SUNDAY: Join the Mount Prospect Historical Society on Sunday (July 14) from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Central School (103 S. Maple St.). All ages are welcome to celebrate summer and our country at this free event. The Dietrich Friedrichs House will also be open for tours.
FARMERS’ MARKET: It is another day of fresh produce, gourmet items, flowers and more on Sunday (July 14) from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Lions Club Farmers’ Market in the Metra East Commuter Lot (Northwest Hwy. & Emerson St.). Stock up for cookouts and healthy eating!
MUSIC @ CAPANNARI: After a healthy Farmers’ Market meal, indulge in dessert capped off with music on Sunday (July 14) from 5 – 7 p.m. in the park at Capannari Ice Cream (10 S. Pine St.). Music is provided by the band, The Pigs. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a yummy ice cream confection.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: Extend your weekend fun into Monday (July 15) 7:30 p.m. when the Mt. Prospect Community Band performs “Movies Magic” at Veterans Memorial Bandshell Lions Park (411 S. WRITERS GROUP: Do you enjoy writing short stories or poetry? Perhaps you need some feedback on your novel. Are you looking for constructive criticism in a friendly environment among others who share your passion? Join the Mount Prospect Writers Group on Tuesday (July 16) from 7 – 9:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 2A on the Second Floor of Mount Prospect Public Library (10 S. Emerson St.). The group is open to all adult writers with all levels of writing experience, in all genres. Bring up to five double-spaced pages and copies to share (approximately 10) with group members. ASSESSMENT APPEALS HELP: The Wheeling Township’s office is available to assist property owners with assessment appeals to the Cook County assessor’s office and subsequently to the Cook County Board of Review.
