Movie News–updates on Teen books being made into movies

There’s been a bunch of updates recently on teen books that are being made into movies: is reporting that Lauren Oliver’s Delirium may be a movie.  Fox 2000 has purchased screen rights for the book.  It was reported last summer that Oliver’s other book Before I Fall was optioned by Fox 2000. Click here to read Renee’s review of Delirium.  Also here’s the book trailer for Delirium:

–Fox 2000 has also planning for a followup for the movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, according to  This next movie would be The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.  The original movie did not do that well, but I guess the fan base for the books series is what Fox is hoping will ensure the success of the second movie.

Variety is reporting that three actress are vying for the lead role of Katniss in The Hunger Games movie.  The front runner is Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), and the other two actresses are Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Abigail Breslin (Zombieland, Little Miss Sunshine).  Lawrence is 20 years old and Steinfeld and Breslin are both 14, so they are closer to Katniss’ age which has been said to be playing an important part is determining the lead. There’s an interesting article on where they discuss how Katniss’ race and body type are not being well represented by those who are auditioning because the casting call was asking for young women who are Caucasian and “look underfed but strong.”  I would like to know how someone underfed can also look strong…?

–Finally, The Hollywood Reporterhas reported that Kristin Stewart is the favorite of movie makers to play the lead role of Snow White in the movie Snow White and the HuntsmenRed Riding Hood, also a edgy-ily redone fairy tale movie, comes out in theaters this weekend.  If Red Riding Hood does well, then Snow White and the Huntsmen may be the second movie in a trend of remaking fairy tale movies…
