Evermore by Alyson Noël
Evermore is the first book in The Immortals series, by Noël. It is also a popular series here at the Library. Now I realize that there is a reason why so many people are checking this series out! Evermore is really good, and it will especially appeal to all you Twilight fans out there. The main character, Ever, survived a car crash that left her entire family dead. As the sole survivor, she has been forced to move in with her rich aunt in sunny California. Ever is anything but ok. She is not only left with physical scars from the accident, she can now hear thoughts, see auras, and can also see ghosts–including her dead little sister. To keep herself sane, Ever, once a popular cheerleader, now dresses in baggy jeans with a hooded sweatshirt over her head and music blaring into her ears via her iPod. She is tortured by her new abilities and also by the guilt of losing her family. Cue the Edward clone! Into her life comes Damen. He is beautiful and mysterious and very interested in Ever. Noël does a great job in creating the Edward and Bella chemistry, and I think even does it better because it is not as drawn out as in Twilight. I won’t ruin it for you, but it is apparent that Damen is more than human, because Ever cannot hear his thoughts. Is he vampire or something else? Pick up Evermore to find out, then read the rest of The Immortals series–I know I will!
Noël has also writtin a companion book to The Immortals series, Radiance, about Ever’s younger sister Riley and her afterlife as a Soul Catcher.
