Government and Legal Information

Mount Prospect Public Library was designated a federal depository for government publications in 1990. Selecting approximately 16 percent of the publications offered to the 1,250 participating libraries nationwide, MPPL provides this information in a variety of formats: print, CD-ROM, microfiche and electronic. A small print collection is on the second floor adjacent to the legal code sets; however, many of the print materials have been incorporated into the reference and circulating collections. Many print sources have migrated to electronic-only formats available through the Web.

Highlights of the collection include:

Print sets of the following

  • Statutes at Large 1976-present
  • Code of Federal Regulations
  • Federal Register (2 years)
  • United States Reports 1975-present

Nolo Press Self Help Law Center
Nolo Press was started by two Legal Aid lawyers who were fed up with the fact that the average person couldn’t find affordable legal information and advice. Convinced that with good, reliable information, Americans could handle routine legal problems without hiring an attorney, they began writing plain-English law books for non-lawyers.
