Lobby Redesign Will Improve Access and Service

In October the lobby will be undergoing renovations to increase efficiency, improve traffic flow, and allow more self-service stations. Neither the Library nor the lobby will need to close during the construction, and all services will be available. And, of course, staff will always be available to assist you.

The renovations will divide the lobby into two service areas: a staffed service desk and a self-service area.

The staffed desk will include both the Registration and Circulation functions, where you can:

  • check out materials
  • ask questions
  • register for programs, and obtain or renew your Library card

The self-service area will contain:

  • self-checkout stations
  • a shelving area where patrons can pick up held items
  • express public computers
  • scanner
  • copier

pinterestPinterest describes itself as “a place to discover ideas for all your projects and interests.” But it can also be compared to an online bulletin board. Just like boards that hang on our walls, with Pinterest you “pin” photos and links you find online to different categories, also called “boards.” As with other social media sites, you can follow other pinners. Have Your Webinar, Meeting, or Conference in MPPL’s New Foundation Room

Due to the generosity of the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation, patrons can now have a meeting, conference, or webinar in the high-tech Foundation Room on the second floor.

The room seats 10 and is equipped with a Windows 7 computer with a 50” monitor and webcam. The table includes built-in power and monitor (HDMI) connections for patron devices.

Business Librarian Joe Collier recently used the room to present a webinar.

“Compared to working from a cubicle, cramped office meeting room or noisy coffee shop, the Foundation Room–with its tech-savvy setup and calm, comfortable atmosphere–is the perfect environment for conducting video conferences, Skype interviews, giving webinars or simply hosting a professional meeting.”

Use of the Foundation Room is limited to an individual, a business or group needing to use the equipment available in the room. Permitted usage includes: online conferencing, technology-based collaboration, viewing online webinars, online interviews, and presentations.

Reservations for the Foundation Room can only be made by MPPL cardholders and may be made up to a month in advance with no minimum number of people. Noncardholders can use the room on a walk-in basis only. Use of the room is restricted to patrons age 18 and older. Click here for more information and for our conference room policy.
