The Village of Mount Prospect purchased a 21,000 sq. ft. building at 1601 E. Algonquin Rd. to expand the Community Connections Center (CCC) that houses the Human Services Department and Mount Prospect Public Library South Branch. This new location will be rebranded as the Mount Prospect Village Resource Center (VRC), or “the Center,” to represent its purpose of providing essential and accessible social, health, and library services to the community.

The VRC site is less than a mile away from the current location at 1711 W. Algonquin Rd. in south Mount Prospect and is accessible by walking, public transportation, or car.

“We are excited to have found a new location in South Mount Prospect to ensure we continue to maintain our relationship with the community,” says Esther Salutillo, Deputy Director of the Human Services Department. “With a larger Center, the Human Services Department plans to enhance its services with an expanded space for client services, a larger client-shop model food pantry, partner agency space, larger community room space for additional programming, and a youth space.”

The library aims to increase patron space to include additional computers and meeting and study spaces.

“We are excited that a new location for the South Branch of the library will strengthen the way we serve our community,” says Su Reynders, Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Public Library. “This expanded facility will give us room to grow our collection, welcome larger program audiences, create more inviting spaces for collaboration and quiet study, and broaden access to technology for residents in the southern portion of Mount Prospect.”

Additional space is earmarked for a Mount Prospect Police substation and storage for the Mount Prospect Public Works Department.

The purchase of the building was approved by the Village Board on March 3, 2026. This followed a Community Needs Assessment conducted in 2025 by Initium Health that ultimately recommended expansion due to increased need for services. The Mayor and Trustees identified this assessment as a high priority in the 2023 strategic planning process.

The Village will submit a Community Project Funding request for fiscal year 2027 for the operational build out and design of the new location. Occupancy of the building will take place in mid to late 2027.

“The Center will continue to be a vital place for residents to access services,” says Salutillo, who reinforces the importance of accessibility, comfort, and a continuing relationship with the library.

Reynders states that “our longstanding partnership with the Village has demonstrated the value of shared space, making it easier for residents to access both library resources and essential human services in one place.”
