The Mount Prospect Public Library (MPPL) reopened its Main Library today, February 1. The Main Library operates with limited capacity and time limits, allowing patrons to find and check out materials efficiently in less than an hour. The library’s South Branch (1711 W. Algonquin) will reopen to the public at a later date. Both locations continue to provide Parking Lot Pickup and virtual services for patrons.
When visiting MPPL, all patrons and staff are required to wear face coverings and practice safe distancing while inside the library; children under the age of 2 are the only patrons exempt from wearing a face covering.
Upon arrival, patrons can expect to be greeted by library staff to answer questions and ensure capacity limits. Vulnerable patrons are invited to the Main Library during allocated hours each Tuesday and Thursday 10-11 a.m.
The library continues to offer contactless options for the community, including Parking Lot Pickup, live chat services, and home delivery. Virtual programming offers many options for patrons, including authors visits, book talks and recommendations, and storytimes as well as discussions about personal finance, entertainment, and health.
For additional details, visit the library’s website (www.mppl.org/reopening) and social media channels for updates.
Main Library hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 12-5 p.m. Chat/Text/Phone services are available Monday-Friday starting at 9 a.m. South Branch service hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Friday before the second Saturday of the month 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; second Saturday of the month 11 a.m-3 p.m.
The library’s services may change at any time. We are actively monitoring conditions for the health and safety of our patrons and staff, and we will adjust accordingly. The library’s actions are guided by available science and information from public health and infectious disease experts, Executive Orders from the Office of Governor Pritzker, and the American Library Association. The safety of our patrons and staff is our highest priority.
