Collection Development Librarian

Hours: 37.5 per week

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop a library collection that reflects and responds to a diverse community? Would you like to be part of a talented, dedicated team that works together to create a trusted space and valued community resource? The Mount Prospect Public Library is seeking a Spanish-speaking librarian to lead collection development efforts at our South Branch location, which serves as a hub of the vibrant community on the south side of town.

This position will work under the guidance of the Community Engagement Director and collaborate closely with our South Branch Manager and other team members. In this role, you will build and maintain a relevant, high-interest collection that spans all formats, including English and Spanish materials for all ages. This position will also  ​work ​the public service desk providing circulation, reference, readers’ advisory, and technology assistance to patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess a Master’s degree in Library Science or the equivalent education and/or work experience. Spanish language proficiency required and additional languages desirable. The ideal candidate will have experience working with public library collections and will have an interest in applying an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion lens to their work.

SALARY: Starting salary is $24.20 per hour (annual equivalent is $47,192). Full time 37.5 hours per week

Other benefits: Medical, dental and vision benefits are offered. Part of the total compensation package also includes paid time off benefits (I.e., Paid holidays, vacation time, personal days, and sick leave). Retirement savings options include participation in the IMRF pension plan.

SCHEDULE: Full time 37.5 hours per week. Regular schedule includes day hours, two evening shifts per week,​ and participation in the Friday evening rotation.  ​Occasional weekends or additional evening shifts as needed.​​
