Readers’ Advisor/Fiction Selector

Do you know which books have Reese and Jenna talking? Do you know your Jack Reachers from your Inspector Gamaches and your Maisie Dobbs from your Lady Whistledowns? If your Goodreads account is filled with reads and to-reads for nearly every mood, the Fiction-AV-Teen Department of the Mount Prospect Public Library has an opportunity for you. We’re looking for a new part-time Readers’ Advisor who has excellent customer service skills and is energized by talking to people about books. ​You’ll join an expert and enthusiastic team, staff a popular materials desk serving adults and teens, select books for adult fiction and large-print collections, lead Library book discussions, and promote collections through lists and displays.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will be friendly, detail-oriented, adaptable, and tech-savvy. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two years public service experience with popular materials required.

SALARY: $18 – $18.50 per hour

  1. BENEFITS: Part of the total compensation package includes paid time off benefits (I.e., vacation and sick leave). Retirement savings options include participation in the IMRF pension plan.

SCHEDULE:  24 hours per week average
Monday noon to 5 pm
Tuesday 1 pm to 5 pm
Wednesday noon to 5 pm
Thursday 1 pm to 5 pm
Friday noon to 5 pm
Participation in Friday evening and weekend rotations.
