MPPL FanFest 2019

On February 23, the Library’s first-ever MPPL FanFest welcomes everyone to a celebration of popular culture. This inclusive and fun event is an opportunity for fans of all ages to explore and enjoy fandom in all its forms, and features comic authors/ artists, games, crafts, costumes, and more. Whether you’re barely geeky or very geeky, if you’re a fan, then FanFest has something for you!

The festivities will include an Author/Illustrator Panel Discussion and book signing featuring Chicago comics creators Ivan Brunetti, Katie Schenkel, and Michael Moreci.

Dressing up as a favorite character is the focus of the Cosplay Social, where fans both in and out of costume can meet, find books and other resources, and pick up tips and ideas for designing their own cosplay.

Throughout the day, fan-related craft activities for all ages will be available, as well as a scavenger hunt to find some of the most fan-beloved titles throughout the Library’s collection. Other activities will include sessions of the popular and imaginative card game Superfight! ™and chances to experience virtual reality technology.

The event will culminate with Fandom Feud, a gameshow-style competition in which contestants can use their knowledge of the pop culture they love to win prizes.

“Fandom is for everyone” is the motto for MPPL FanFest, so one thing’s certain—there will be fandom fun for every fan! This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
