PS, I Love You is the first novel written by Cecelia Ahern, the 26 year old daughter of Ireland’s Prime Minister Bernie Ahern. The novel focuses on Holly Kennedy, a newly-widowed 30 year old living in Dublin. In the early stages of grieving, Holly feels lost and alone and wonders how she will ever be able to move on in life without her husband, Gerry, who died after a struggle with brain cancer. Holly soon discovers a mysterious package from Gerry and in it, she finds a series of letters he wrote to her before he died. The letters, to be opened one at a time each month for 10 months, comprise a series of tasks Holly must accomplish which will force her to pull herself up out of grief and resume her life. With the help of her friends and family, Holly tries to heal knowing Gerry is always with her.
