Of Quick Brown Foxes and Lazy Dogs

Ella Minnow Pea book coverNot far off the coast of South Carolina is the island of Nollop, named after the author of the popular pangram, “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.”  When letters begin to drop from the town’s memorial, the Council takes it as a sign that those letters should be removed from all speech and writing.  In Ella Minnow Pea [pause here to say aloud], Mark Dunn has crafted a delightful parable of letters [pun intended] chronicling a campaign for freedom of expression even while more and more of those letters disappear from its pages.  As the Dallas Morning Herald observed in the same spirit of wordplay, “This exceptional, zany book will quickly make you laugh.”
