Checking Out Items
You can have up to five titles checked out at any given time. The default loan period for e-books and audiobooks is 14 days; the option for a 7-day or 21-day checkout is also available for e-books and audiobooks if selected before checking out.
You can place holds on unavailable items; up to seven titles can be on hold at a time. When an item becomes available for you, you will be notified at the e-mail address you provide. It will be available for 72 hours from the time the e-mail was sent.
There are no overdue fees for items; however, you will be unable to use items after their loan period has expired. Adobe e-books can be returned early using Adobe Digital Editions. EPUB e-books and MP3 audiobooks can be returned early using the OverDrive Media Console app for Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone/iPad. Kindle editions can be returned early using the Manage Your Content and Devices page at Amazon.com. At this time, WMA audiobooks, Open EPUB ebooks, and Open PDF ebooks cannot be returned early.
Titles cannot be renewed by extending the loan period, but you can check them out again if they are available when the loan period ends. If no other holds are waiting, a “Renew” button will appear by the title on your OverDrive account page a few days before the due date; clicking this button will place you on hold for a second checkout. When your original loan period expires, you will receive an e-mail notifying you that the title is ready to be checked out again; the title will then have to be downloaded again.
What is OverDrive Advantage?
While most of the titles available at MyMediaMall are available to patrons of all member libraries, titles purchased using the OverDrive Advantage Program are available exclusively to patrons of the library that purchased the titles. The Mount Prospect Public Library does offer this extra material to its patrons.
