More Teen Novels Being Made into Movies!

Carrie Diaries The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell
According to MTV.com, studios are looking to make the teen novel The Carrie Diaries, about the teen version of the Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw, into a movie.  But if you’ve read the book you know that it was set in the 80’s, so to keep this movie hip and appealing it is rumored that it will not be younger versions of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.  Instead they will be introducing a new set of young women who are just as interesting and stylish.  Who would be the first choice to play the lead Carrie Bradshaw-ish role, Blake Lively of course!  Click here to find The Carrie Diaries at the Library.

Ender's Game Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
MTV.com has interviewed Roberto Oci who is working on writing the screen adaptation for Ender’s Game alongside Alex Kurtzman and with director Gavin Hood.  Ender’s Game is a classic science fiction novel where the main character Ender Wiggin, who is six-years-old and seemingly a genius, is beginning his education at battle school in space.  The novel follows him through the age of twelve, where he has earned respect and is being counted on to battle invading aliens.  The series, Ender’s Saga, has 10 books in total.  Click here to find Ender’s Game at the Library.

The Host The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Variety is reporting that the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host now has a director, Susanna White.  While technically not a novel written for teens, The Host is Meyer’s only other book outside of the Twilight Saga.  It centers on an earth much like the one that we know today, but where aliens have invaded and taken over the human race.  These aliens use human bodies as their hosts.  They invade the body and take over as the human “soul” withers away.  There are humans who fight against the aliens and who have been forced into a guerrilla nomadic existence.  Melanie is a human who has just been taken over by an alien.  However, Melanie is a strong soul and fights against her alien invader.  As a human Melanie was obsessed with finding her human friends and fighting against the alien invaders.  The alien is unsure of her role in taking over a human body, and does not truly know if she wants to be in a human body.  This leads to a complicated coexistence that intensifies when the two entities in one body are captured by a group of humans in hiding.  Click here to find The Host at the Library.
