On Sunday October 28, from 2 – 4 p.m., bring your old (clean!) socks and give them new life as a scary creature just in time for Halloween. You’ll also learn how to decorate your candy treats to show off your creativity. There will be plenty of candy for your crafts – and more to eat as well! For teens in grades 6 – 12.

Handmade Chic by Laura Bennett
Project Runway star, Laura Bennett, shares tips and techniques on how to make 35 high-fashion projects. The beginning of the book explains a variety of techniques from finishing leather to dyeing feathers. Bennett gives the reader helpful information on where to buy different materials, using faux fur, and even sewing terminology. The projects are divided into four sections, Small Luxuries, Fashionably Organized, Stylish Carryalls, and Evening Extravagances. Each project comes with great instructions, a lot of pictures and even patterns. Plus, helpful tips to encourage you along the way.
This is a great book for anyone interested in creating designer quality belts, bags, bracelets, and even a beaded dress. The author stresses the point that ”handmade” does not have to look “homemade” and her quality projects show this. Another benefit of the book is that there are different project levels. You can start with a simple key ring tassle and work your way up to a feathered evening clutch. Whatever your skill level, you can find fun, fashion projects to work on this summer, that will look great.

Not only do do we post reviews by you, but we also enthusiastically accept any art that you create and we will post it to the Teen Blog. Whether it’s drawings, photography, or even instructions for creating a cool craft or a recipe (click here for an example of a craft Haley previously submitted). You can turn in your work to the Fiction/AV/Teen desk on the second floor. Once you turn in the work, though, we cannot guarantee it’s return. Fleece Tie Pillow craft by Haley
Fleece tie pillows are a very creative craft to do.
1st- you will need to buy 2 pieces of fleece and have measured.
2nd- you need to cut out the square ends on each side.
3rd- you need to start tying the pillow together with the other piece of fabric.
** Also make sure when you tie the pillow that all sides are tied in a knot evenly and connected.
4th- continue tying the pillow but leave one side open to put polyester cotton in.
5th- then you put the cotton in on the open side.
6th- if it is a big pillow then you will need a whole bag, but if its a small pillow 13 by 13 inch then you will only need half of the bag of cotton.
7th- then your pillow is completed and you will be able to take it with you when you travel in the car or have it as a extra pillow for you to sleep on.
