Green Cards, Citizenships, Visas

A permanent resident card is also referred to as a green card.  Information and applications  for application, renewing and replacing are available at the Department of Homeland Security: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration site or by calling 800-375-5283.

The application for citizenship is the N-400 Application for Naturalization and details for fees and completing this form are also available on a section of the U.S. Citzenship and Immigration site.

Information regarding various types of visas needed for foreign citizens to travel to the U.S. are available on the Department of State: site.

You are entitled to request one free credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, once every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.  While prices may vary when requesting a credit score from these or other companies, the score is an additional cost and is not included in the free credit report unless ordered.

Resume and Cover Letter Templates

The Library has many print and electronic resources to help you write a resume and cover letter.  Career Transitions, Fergusons Career Guidance Center, and the Adult Career Center/ are available to all patrons visiting the library and accessible from home or remote access to MPPL cardholders.  Easy-to-access templates are also available on, which you may download and tailor to your work history and background. Other features to check out are the America's Service Locator to find out where one of the 3000 offices are nearest to you, and the Employer Locator to source potential job openings. is provided by the Department of Labor.

Illinois health insurance plan options

A new health insurance plan will open this morning and be made available on a first-come, first-served basis to those who qualify in Illinois. The plan is called Illinois Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (IPXP) and details for enrollment are available as are applications at

Another plan to consider is the ICHIP, the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, for those who are either presently uninsured or will soon have exhausted COBRA benefits.
