Join the staff of an active, service-oriented public library. Major duties include staffing a busy reference desk, collection development, and technology training for staff and the public. Candidate must have an interest in technology, strong public speaking skills, initiative, and a commitment to providing excellent public service. Individual must be able to work effectively with team environment. Schedule is 37.5 hours per week, includes evening and weekend hours. Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited school required. Annual salary is $ 41,437.50 and benefits, including IMRF.

Circulation Assistant – Circulation Services Department

Four part-time positions available. Major duties include staffing service desk and related circulation duties. Customer service experience highly desirable. Computer skills required. High school diploma required. Required to pass a skills exercise on the alphabetical and numerical arrangement of library materials. Bilingual a plus. $11.55 hourly pay.

Substitute Patron Assistant – South Branch

Substitute Patron Assistant position available. This position is responsible for providing basic information services: ready reference, reader’s advisory and information and referral. Position includes staffing the public service desk, library instruction, compiling/assembling patron aids, developing bibliographic aids, maintaining files, performing circulation/registration functions, and providing basic computer/office equipment troubleshooting. There is extensive contact with the public within the Library and Community Connections Center. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to access, input and retrieve data from the computer required. Bachelor’s Degree required.  Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required. Ability to speak conversational Spanish required. Proficiency in other languages a plus. $14.65 hourly pay.

South Branch is located at the intersection of Algonquin and Busse Roads, Crystal Court shopping center.

Substitute hours will be scheduled between the hours of 11 am and 7:30 pm, including some weekends.

Youth Services Assistant Department Head

Mount Prospect Public Library is seeking a Full Time Youth Services Assistant Department Head with a solid foundation in collection development and a passion for technology to join our Management Team. The Youth Services Department has sixteen fun, creative team members who provide services to children from birth to age 11 and their parents and caregivers.

Duties: Oversees collection development for the department and develops the department’s technology vision. Supervises the collection specialist librarian, technology librarian and part-time desk staff. Oversees public desk training and ensures the department maintains a high level of customer service. Hires, coaches and evaluates staff. Serves as in-charge for the Library.

Required: Must have a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school with at least five years progressively responsible library experience in youth services including two years in supervisory role.
